This GA Peach has returned to the homeland!

Well, it's official! My home base has moved to the South, where it all began. I had been living in New York City and calling it home for about 5 years and it became time for a change. I learned so many incredible and valuable things while living in the big apple and will always know it is there to return to should I miss the hustle and bustle, but the South has welcomed me with open arms and it feels good to be home!

I am looking forward to the next adventure on the horizon! Like Mary Poppins says, "anything can happen, if you let it." So in true Pops style (that's how I referred to her as a child), I'm letting it happen.

My goal in all of this, this journey we call life, is to make a difference. To me, performing has such power. The power to help someone feel something they had forgotten how to feel; to help someone feel something they have never felt before; or just to help someone escape, even if just for a moment. As a wise man once said, "with great power, comes great responsibility." (come on...I had to!) But in all honesty, performing means giving back, it is my form of saying thank you and I hope you enjoy.

When you line up with your heart and a goal, you become unstoppable.

Cheers, everyone and I hope to see you soon!

Living the dream in Georgia with Peach State Summer Theatre!

I'm back home! This Georgia peach has flown south for the summer and is reveling in humidity! It is so wonderful to be performing with Peach State Summer Theatre once again. This season, I have the great pleasure of playing the title role in Mary Poppins, Peggy Sawyer in 42nd Street, and Ensemble in Smokey Joe's Cafe.

Though I am immensely enjoying all 3 roles, playing Mary Poppins is indeed a dream come true! I grew up watching Julie Andrews and imagining my own jolly holidays. Learning to fly has definitely been an amazing bonus of the role. I hope this is only the beginning of more air time!

Running shows in repertory fashion is always a challenge and this summer proves to be no different. The long, needed rehearsal hours seem unending at times, but there is always fun to be had. Bonding with new cast mates, making memories, and laughing and learning along the way make the whole process worth the sweat. Having opened all 3 shows, the schedule has opened significantly, though we still sing and dance our hearts out 7 times a week. They like to keep us busy down here! But it is truly amazing to be able to do what you love and hope you inspire others around you to do the same.

Come see the magic!
Now playing through July 27th in Valdosta, GA!

Miracle on 34th Street the Musical!

Well, I'm very excited to share my newest update! I am currently in the midst of rehearsals to perform the role of Doris Walker in Miracle on 34th Street the Musical with Ocean State Theatre Company. This is my first time in Rhode Island and it's already started out as a blast. We, as a cast, have begun forming our "family," which I must admit, is one of my favorite parts of every rehearsal process. This particular role presents an exciting challenge to strengthen the lower notes of my vocal range, but who doesn't love a good challenge? I'm looking forward to what awesome times lay ahead during this adventure. If you find yourself in the Warwick, RI area during the month of December, please come by and enjoy the show!

We open December 4th and run through December 29th. Find a detailed show schedule here.

Happy Holidays to you all!

We've had the pleasure and privilege of having most of our rehearsals outside, in various parks around the city. Our rehearsals have consisted of using various tools, exercises and explorations for extensive character work. Within this performance, I am part of an Ancestral Chorus and have the opportunity to portray an opera singer from the 1500's. I must admit, having rehearsals outside and exploring our characters in public was a little off-putting to me at first. I am so accustomed to being in a classroom, in a studio, inside a theatre and rehearsing in the "normal" way, but this experience continues to be so liberating! What is so enjoyable about this process is that it brings me back to the foundation of why I love to be an actor. You are connecting with this character, this foreign part of yourself, and you are bringing it to life. You are creating something that an audience can feel and relate to on many levels. It's about providing that escape and creating moments where the outside world disappears, leaving only what's left happening in the moment and reveling there. Throughout this process, I've had my doubts, I've had my frustrations, and I've been embarrassed, but the rewards that I have found outweigh everything else. I think this performance has the potential for greatness and I hope to see you all there!

Life's too short to do anything other than what you love.

The Newest Manhattan Doll has Arrived!

The start of 2013 has brought a whirlwind with it! But the most exciting news to date is my recent addition to The Manhattan Dolls.
I think this is going to be an incredible opportunity! The ladies in the group are amazing and I am excited to get started. Singing songs in the style of the Andrews Sisters is such a dream come true. I love the tight harmonies and seeing the joy it brings others, especially our armed forces, old and young. I am eager to do some traveling, meet new people, and make wonderful memories.

We will be having a concert featuring all Dolls sometime this Spring and I will be sure to post date, time and place soon!

Meet all the Dolls Here!

Come support Mount Carmel Theatre Company and see yours truly in their upcoming production of Frankenstein: A New Musical!

October 19-21st
275 North 8th Street , Williamsburg, New York

I am really excited to be starting rehearsals for this production. I was just recently cast for the role of Agatha, a blind man's daughter. She gets to sing one of the most beautiful songs (in my opinion) in the score, "Music of Love".
This being my first production in the New York area, I cannot express how amazing it feels to have the chance to do what I love in this city! Even having met with the cast for only a couple of rehearsals thus far, I know this experience is going to be incredible.

Diving into this show, juggling my schedule, paying bills, and trying to find time to relax is no easy task! But all of the above-mentioned craziness is what it means to be following my dream, so I can't say I would change a thing.

Any additional details I get for the show (specific show times, ticket prices, etc.), I'll be sure to post in the blog.

I am ready for a new adventure and I hope to see many of your faces at the show!

Introduction

8/13/2012

So, I decided to take the opportunity for this first blog entry to provide a short bio to give you some more background.

As I said on the welcome page, I was born and raised in a small town in south Georgia. Growing up, saying that I was surrounded by theatre would be an understatement! The apple didn't fall from the tree this time. Both of my wonderful parents were/are Theatre professors and avidly participated in summer stock. My first experience onstage was performing with our community theatre, playing Gretl von Trapp in The Sound of Music. After that, I had opportunities to play children in some of the university productions as well as productions with The Jekyll Island Musical Theatre Festival before it became Peach State Summer Theatre.

When I was younger, I loved taking dance classes at my local studio, Dance Arts, Inc. Tap dancing soon became a passion that still remains with me today. And I had certainly done my fair share of performing in The Nutcracker (just ask Mom). I went on to perform in my high school productions and after briefly considering majoring in Marine Biology, I decided performing was really where my heart resided. I had a wonderful time in college and was part of some amazing productions. After graduating in 2009, I went straight to Texas to perform with Texas Musical Drama. From there, I spent some time in Florida, working with The Show Palace Dinner Theatre. One of my favorite experiences thus far has to have been performing with Veggie Tales LIVE! in 2010. I loved the touring environment and I made some incredible memories. Check out one of our DVDs!

Then in January of 2011, my roommate Rose and I decided it was time for the big move up to New York City. We felt especially accomplished to have driven our UHaul from Georgia all the way up to NY ourselves. Two southern girls had made it and were ready to chase their dreams! Since then, I am happy to say my roommate has found success with a small dance company and I have had the chance to hop around, building my resume and learning more every day. In 2011 alone, I had a contract in Florida then traveled back to NY only to end up in Georgia, stepping in last minute for someone who had twisted an ankle. After that, I came back up to the city for a month before heading to Circa '21 Dinner Playhouse in Illinois and heading back down to Florida to return to The Show Palace Dinner Theatre.

I could not be more thankful for the opportunities I have had thus far in my career. I would not be where I am today without the amazing support from my family and friends. I look forward to what the future holds, always believing "The best is yet to come!"
